Property tax favours investors?

To add to the letter “Make property tax fairer” (July 13), it seems that the law favours property investment to owner occupation.

Mortgage interest and expenses for repairs and maintenance can be used to offset tax paid on rental income, while no such benefit exists for owner-occupiers in their property tax.

Woman charged with giving fake stamp certificates

A 50-year old woman was charged with using counterfeit stamp certificates.

The Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) on Friday pressed four charges on Koh Siew Buay for offences under the Stamp Duties Act.

The court heard that between January and July last year, Koh gave out fake stamp certificates for four different properties to four tenants.

If convicted, Koh could be fined up to S$10,000 and jailed up to three years for each offence.

The case has been adjourned to 20 July.
