Studio apartments should incur lower costs

I have two questions regarding studio apartments for senior citizens.

Firstly, having recently moved into one and after receiving the bill for service and conservancy charges, I wish to ask: Why are the charges the same as those for two-room flats?

Studio apartments should be in a separate category and have the lowest charges since they are for seniors.

Secondly, why do the apartments, with 30-year leases, cost more than two-room Build-To-Order flats (99-year lease)? Seniors pay for these studios with their life savings and may not have any left after 30 years.

Prevent enclaves in private estates, too

I refer to the report “HDB to consider measures to discourage enclaves” (July 10). The ethnic integration policy seeks to prevent enclaves from forming in any public housing estate and contributes to racial harmony.

However, residents in private housing, particularly condominiums, are also an important segment of the population.

While these are private estates, which may suggest minimal government interference, do the authorities monitor whether ethnic enclaves are being formed in estates in certain parts of Singapore? Would this not be detrimental to our social fabric?

Excluding one segment of the population from a national policy also smacks of inequality in implementation.
